History of Fly Away

Fly Away AgriProducts Inc. came to be because of friends and family members in the horse industry. The increased awareness and concern of EPM and its causes (birds) prompted Duane Sibbet to develop an operating barn door screen that would fit tight to any opening, be practical, functional and affordable. The Fly Away® was introduced at the 1997 World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. Finally, the dairy and horse industries have found a product that would keep birds, bugs and other unwanted pests out of the barn and virtually eliminate the use of dangerous fly sprays and foggers in the barn.

In 1999, the Fly Away® Barn Door Screen was awarded EQUITANA USA's prestigious Enterprise Award for the Most Innovative New Stable/Farm Management Product or Service. Because the Fly Away® Barn Door Screens are custom made to the owner's specifications, the application possibilities are limitless.

Realizing the need for a durable and washable calf covering, Duane used the scrap from his mother's horse blanket company, RaDon, to develop and test a calf covering for the dairy industry. Knowing that calves are extremely fragile during the first few days of life, Duane researched the benefits of calf coverings and found in the Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research, 1989, Vol. 53, that "calves protected with an insulated coat provided a 52% increase in whole animal insulation." Other manufacturers had already developed a calf covering for this specific reason, but Duane found that their product was not machine washable and did not last long. Using heavy-duty Cordura® nylon and Thinsulate™ insulation, Duane developed the only machine washable, durable, adjustable Calf Jackets™ on the market today.
